Artist, Handicrafter, Teacher, Entrepreneur, and Philanthropist
Debi Pruyne has been creating art and handicrafting since 1977. She is the owner of HootOwl Handicrafts, currently based in Elk Grove, California. She paints on canvas and wood using oils, acrylics, and mixed media. She creates clothing, toys, and decorative items by knitting, crocheting, sewing, and macramé using a multitude of fibers and fabrics. She designs and makes jewelry and home décor items with metal, wood, fibers, leather, and clay. Debi is constantly honing her skills through continuing education. And she enjoys discovering new techniques and collaborating with other artists.
Debi thrives on helping budding artists and handicrafters bloom. She enjoys imparting her wide array of knowledge and is eager to encourage creativity and expression through individual or group classes at her client’s home or in her private studio. She started HootOwl Handicrafts in 2020 as a way to share her work and have a positive impact on a broader audience through the power of social media.
During Operation Desert Shield, Debi served as a Petty Officer in the US Navy and is passionate about helping her fellow veterans. She will soon be retiring from the Veterans Administration after 25 years of service and she frequently volunteers at charitable events such as Stand Down, which is focused on providing food, clothing, and assistance to homeless and at-risk veterans.
